Working to identify and address issues affecting the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and motorists in our neighbourhood.
We monitor neighbourhood car, pedestrian and cycling traffic and parking patterns. We regularly communicate with the City of Toronto Transportation Services, the Councillor’s office and the Police on issues related to traffic flow, signage and potentially hazardous road conditions. We also make recommendations to address these concerns.
We keep the community informed on the progress of road construction projects in the neighbourhood. This has been a challenge during the Glen Road Reconstruction Project because timelines constantly shifted, there were labour issues and then Covid 18 intervened, necessitating further slowdowns. A project that was to commence in April, 2019 and finish at the end of October, 2019 was repeatedly delayed, with completion October, 2020, a year late. We obtained regular updates from the City Project Manager and communicated with the community throughout by means of newsletter articles and emails.
At least one issue from the Glen Road Project remains outstanding. Some residents believe that the reconfigured Whitney and Glen intersection is unsafe. Discussions are ongoing with the concerned residents, the NRRA and the City Engineer to try to determine whether the intersection requires further changes to widen the entrance to Whitney from Glen and to reduce the sharpness of the turn.
We also provide information to residents who want to initiate changes to road signage or traffic calming measures on their streets.
The NRRA works with four other nearby Residents’ Associations, meeting with our City Councillor Dianne Saxe to address Transportation and Safety issues common to our neighbourhoods.
